Key features used

Centerpoint Connect is purpose-built for commercial roofing firms. Its platform brings together lead tracking, sales, service management, real-time project visibility, inspections, proposals, and reporting, helping customers simplify their technology stack and manage operations more efficiently.

As customers sought deeper connections with their wider business systems, Centerpoint Connect chose Tyk Cloud to support the next stage of its API offering.

The opportunity

Growing demand for integrations showed how valuable Centerpoint Connect’s data had become to its customers. Customers wanted to use that data in business intelligence (BI) tools and connect with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and accounting platforms beyond the product’s existing integrations.

Centerpoint Connect had been managing customer data access in-house. As adoption grew, the team identified an opportunity to move from individually supported access to a consistent, documented API experience. The goal was to give customers greater independence while keeping the service efficient to operate at scale.

The team evaluated major API management providers, including Kong and Apigee, and considered building a custom solution using Swagger and Stoplight. Industry research, including Gartner and user feedback on Reddit, helped bring Tyk into consideration.

“Tyk’s solution offered the best value for meeting our needs and showed 25x cost savings in our build vs buy analysis.”

The role of Tyk

Tyk combined the core capabilities that Centerpoint Connect needed most – developer portal functionality, flexible deployment options (cloud/self-hosted/hybrid), and strong quality of service – delivering value that made the decision straightforward. Proxy protection for the main database also mattered, while Tyk’s open source ethos aligned with Centerpoint Connect’s philosophy.

Centerpoint Connect now uses Tyk to manage a comprehensive API with between 100 and 150 endpoints spanning its system. Around 200 users across 40 customer accounts rely on the API, which handles approximately 2.5 million requests per month and is deployed on AWS US East 1. It supports CRM functionality, job, production and service tickets, invoices and related components, as well as files and tags.

“The implementation experience was excellent. Setup was complete within two days and theme editing was straightforward, which made life easier. There was strong communication and commitment from the Tyk team throughout. Definitely an A+ rating for implementation.”

The results

Centerpoint Connect has delivered the self-service data access it envisioned. Customers can bring their data into BI and integration platforms and connect workflows through Zapier and other automation tools. This gives roofing businesses more flexibility to use Centerpoint Connect alongside the systems that fit their operations.

The developer portal supports that experience while keeping access controlled. Portal assets are visible, while registration requires an existing key and documentation remains restricted to authorized users.

Tyk fits efficiently into the work of Centerpoint Connect’s nine-person development team, with ongoing maintenance handled by one developer. Standardized access and documentation reduce the need for individual support requests and make the API offering easier to manage as adoption grows. The rollout also helped the team strengthen its documentation practices and refine supporting internal processes.

The API has become a mission-critical part of the platform. Centerpoint Connect has supported strong user growth without scaling issues and reached breakeven on the implementation within three months of launching Tyk alongside its new pricing model.

The future

The team continues to build upon the API offering, exploring GraphQL, MCP implementation, and Tyk AI Studio for token management as potential next steps, as well as using Tyk to help build out analytics offerings, AI services and more.

With Tyk supporting API management, Centerpoint Connect has a scalable foundation for that work. Its team can put more attention into new capabilities for roofing businesses, while customers gain more ways to connect the platform to their own tools and workflows.
