What can you do with us?

We’re looking for a General Counsel to lead and develop the legal team at Tyk to shape it into a function that is agile, proactive, has global capabilities and is an enabling force behind the delivery of commercial and corporate strategy and objectives globally.

Here’s what you’ll be getting up to:

  • Reporting to the CFO on a day to day basis, this role will also directly advise, challenge and guide the board and wider business on a range of commercial, employment and corporate governance matters.
  • Provide visible and effective leadership as we scale. In doing so, act as a cultural ambassador and champion professional excellence and agility as well as humility and strength of character. 
  • Proactively identify relevant business and legal issues, define and assess the materiality of risks and find creative solutions to maintain momentum as we scale.
  • Provide advice on compliance matters to ensure Tyk conducts its business in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide support and guidance to our DPO on all matters relating to data protection, privacy and GDPR regulations.
  • Act as Company Secretary and responsible for establishing and overseeing an effective corporate governance and policy framework for the group.
  • Support the CFO in the management and compliance of our employee ownership scheme and take ownership of the option grant process. 
  • Build redundancy into the team and the capability to handle and respond to matters in a timely basis across the various regions of Tyks operations. 
  • Create a resourcing plan that blends internal and external cost-effective and solutions-oriented support options to address the immediate business needs as well as create a longer-term view to scaling the legal function.
  • Work together with the wider leadership team to ensure Tyk is well placed to respond to any future due diligence processes, compliance reviews or audits.
  • Maintain and regularly review our key standard legal documents & templates such as client contracts, data and privacy policies, terms and conditions, NDAs, etc. 

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Admitted as a solicitor with extensive experience in-house, preferably with a technology focus.
  • Experience of establishing, leading and levelling up a Legal team, ideally in a start/ scale-up
  • The ability to identify relevant business and legal issues proactively, define and assess the materiality of risks, find creative solutions to maintain business momentum
  • First-class communication skills and an ability to explain complex legal issues and requirements to a range of internal and external audiences (including but not limited to investors, VCs)
  • Experience of establishing, leading and levelling up a Legal team, ideally in a start/scale-up environment 
  • Balance attention to detail with swift execution. 
  • Natural enjoyment from rolling your sleeves up and the general hustle of scaling a global business
