We’re entering the OASIS with this release! Before we throw on our VR goggles, let’s go back to when we entered a new stratosphere with our 3.0 release. A few months ago, we made many changes including major GraphQL support, improved analytics, simplified policies and keys, weight-based load balancing, a fresh look to the dashboard and more.
3.1 is loaded full of refinements to our 3.0 release, including Universal Data Graph updates, SAML support, schema proxying, and secure email flows.

Is your organisation using SAML and you want to integrate your 3rd party provider to manage the access to the Dashboard and/or the Developer Portal? If so, we have great news as we have added native SAML support in our Tyk Identity Broker. We now support SAML, OpenID Connect (OIDC) and LDAP, so you can fit your most secure AuthN and AuthZ flows in Tyk.

As you know, in our 3.0 release, we introduced GraphQL support to our current API Management platform, as well as our groundbreaking Universal Data Graph (UDG) which allows users to build GraphQL endpoints right within Tyk! We’ve done some additional work in our 3.1 release to make your experience with UDG even better.
First, we added support for validating schemas when you create or update a GraphQL API. If your schema is invalid, you will no longer default to the last valid schema. Instead, you’ll see instant feedback for the invalid schema, preventing you from breaking the system.
When testing Universal Data Graph requests in the API Designer Playground, we know that it was hard to find out why a query is not returning the expected result. In 3.1, you can now open the debug logs on the playground page and see what responses have been returned by the data sources. This feature reduces the complexity and time to troubleshoot errors.
Last, how do you publish your GraphQL APIs in a way for others to consume? We wanted to make this easier. Now, with Tyk, you can publish your GraphQL API and offer a fully functional GraphQL playground for your portal developers to explore your Graph.
In our latest version, you can create a Portal documentation page for GraphQL APIs. This change enables you to have a playground page for your GraphQL APIs within Tyk which can be used just like an OpenAPI Specification. The CORS settings page now comes with reasonable defaults to ease the onboarding for UDG documentation and more.
The schema was right there waiting for me, hidden in old versions written by people who weren’t afraid to be honest
We understand how challenging it is to dynamically evolve a GraphQL API. You expose a new field in your GraphQL API, and now the API Manager is out-of-sync. So we’ve introduced a means to keep track of changes with your upstream GraphQL Schema & then synchronise it within Tyk.
You can now sync your initially fetched schema with an upstream schema while proxying. This is simple to do when placing the `Get latest version` on top of the schema editor, which now displays the last time your schema was updated. We did this to assist developers and API owners with making sure that their GraphQL endpoints are using the latest schema and, if not, allowing them to easily update to the latest schema.
No one in the world gets what they want…unless you’re looking for more secure email flows.
For customers in highly regulated environments, it may not be desirable or secure to be emailing out API keys. So we’ve introduced a more secure flow which enables you to email portal developers with a link. They then login to the developer portal to obtain their API key.
