The Consulting Engineer role provides technical assurance on pre-sales opportunities. In addition to this, they can also contribute to product development, by implementing features and taking part in product discussions. The key difference between a Product Engineer and a consulting Consulting Engineer is that a Consulting Engineer is client-facing.
Consulting Engineers assess customer needs and develop technical solutions to meet those needs. They also provide in-depth technical product advice and demo support during pre-sales discussion, and prepare and deliver detailed product demonstrations and product prototypes for prospective customers.
Junior Consulting Engineers work closely with more experienced team members, who provide them with the support necessary to succeed. Over time, as the junior Consulting Engineer’s experience and skillset grows, so does their autonomy, giving them the freedom to propose solutions architectures, create proofs of concept and drive conversations themselves. They will then also have the opportunity to talk at user groups and conferences.
